TESTIMONIALS-LATINE COMMUNITY

These testimonials arose from the genuine desire of our voices to share what we learned. What you’ll see is not the result of a one-time mindfulness session or an isolated course, but rather the fruit of our sustained work; the result of our community’s journey. It’s the sound of understanding what it means to practice mindfulness in our daily lives as human beings and as a Latine community in the U.S. in this era.

IN-PERSON MINDFULNESS RETREAT: BALANCING GIVING AND RECEIVING

“Embraced by the good land of Milwaukee, 45 women, 45 Early Childhood Educators (ECE) who grew up in various countries in Latin America, Canada, and the United States met. The reunion was with their inner selves and with 45 other women who share similar stories.  They gathered in a circle; behind and in front of them, the trees embraced them, waiting to be embraced. They all created a circle of mindfulness in which to give and receive.

45 women gathered, reunited in the aspiration to expand their capacity to reconnect with their inner selves and continue a collective path of healing. So it happened: 45 women caring, taking care of themselves, and experiencing mindfulness practices. We lived it together. Thank you for your valuable presence and for bringing an open heart.”

"I learned how to self-regulate, I learned that I should share this teaching in my work with the children and with my family."

  • She was outstanding!  She helped create a warm and welcoming environment for the group despite the fact that we were meeting over zoom.  She met each of us where we were on our MBSR journey and was instrumental in helping us form a safe and supportive community in which to practice.  She made sure every participant had the chance to be heard while keeping us on track and on topic.  Her humor and deep personal commitment to mindful living really shone through.  Sylvia was an inspiration.  She brought a fresh perspective to the material we covered and got me thinking about my mindfulness practice in ways I had never done before. She was extremely eloquent and I would strongly recommend her to anyone interested in MBSR.  I sincerely hope I will be able to take another class with her in the future.

  • Sylvia is a creative, dedicated mindfulness instructor, who infuses her classes with humor, stories, perspective, and joy. Committed to ongoing learning for herself and others, she brings a true spirit of curiosity, courage, and kindness to the practice. Sylvia creates a caring environment for her students, models vulnerability, and weaves her life experiences in three languages and multiple cultures into her teaching. As a teacher colleague, I learn a lot from Sylvia each time we work together, and I’m certain her students do as well. Her classes are filled with unexpected gifts and are highly recommended.

These mindfulness practices have been very useful for me. There is a benefit for my family because now they have a much more patient mother, who is calmer, less frantic, a mother who listens.
